Despite dramatic improvements in medicine and an increase in health awareness, diabetes and other chronic conditions remain a significant killer of men and women. Instead of simply treating these conditions with medicine, a proactive hands on approach should be adopted to prevent or delay the conditions from reducing your quality of life. Good nutrition, physical activity, and a healthy body weight are essential parts of a person’s overall health and well-being. Together these can help decrease a person’s risk of developing serious health conditions such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, heart disease, stroke and cancer. A healthful diet, regular physical activity, and achieving and maintaining a healthy weight also are paramount to managing health conditions so they do not worsen overtime.
The Change Your Lifestyle, Change Your Life, or CYL2 program is designed for people with prediabetes as well as individuals that are at a high risk for type 2 diabetes and want to lower their risk. The program focuses on creating healthier eating habits, increasing regular physical activity and engaging participants in a classroom-style setting for group support. 13.9 % of the adult population in LA have diabetes and an estimated 124,000 people in LA have diabetes and don’t even know it.
